Since the beginning of time, nuts and dried fruits have been a staple food for humans.
Walnuts were considered food of the gods by the early Romans, and almonds were among the first plants to be cultivated.
Drying and dehydration were the earliest forms of food preservation: hunters and gatherers collected sun-dried fruits fallen from the trees and valued them for their longevity and their concentrated sweetness.
Modern trade systems allow for easy access to these products on a global scale and they continue to make up a significant portion of the human diet around the world.
